The College Broker was founded on a simple belief: Every student deserves an educational experience that honors who they are, where they come from, and the impact they hope to make in the world. This work has never been solely about college admissions. It has always been about helping young people discover lives of meaning, purpose, and contribution.
The College Broker was founded by educator, researcher, mentor, and community advocate Meaghan Rysdale.
Her work sits at the intersection of higher education, leadership development, experiential learning, and community engagement, guided by a lifelong belief in the transformative power of education.
But long before graduate school, research appointments, and educational consulting, that philosophy began somewhere much simpler:
In family.
In service.
And in learning what it means to build a meaningful life.
Raised within a family of police officers, union truck drivers, and hardworking individuals who believed deeply in service and community, Meaghan learned early that character matters more than credentials and that meaningful work is ultimately about helping others.
As a first-generation college student, higher education represented both possibility and uncertainty. Like many students and families, she navigated unfamiliar systems, asked difficult questions, and learned that educational success is rarely a straight path.
Those experiences continue to shape The College Broker today.
They inform a philosophy that values resilience, second chances, authenticity, and the understanding that talent and potential exist in every community and every family story.
Education should create opportunity.
It should never determine a person's worth.
Although education and mentorship are central to her work, some of life's most meaningful lessons happen far beyond classrooms and university campuses.
Meaghan shares her life with her husband and their spirited Yorkshire Terrier, who is an enthusiastic companion on daily adventures and a regular visitor to Stodder's Neck Dog Park along the Shipyard. Some of her favorite moments are the quiet, ordinary ones—morning walks, handwritten notes, good conversations, and gathering around a table with people she loves.
She has always enjoyed creating spaces that bring people together. Whether arranging flowers, designing thoughtful tablescapes, or hosting family and friends, she believes hospitality is its own form of education. The simple act of welcoming others, sharing stories, and cultivating community reflects many of the same values that guide her work with students.
A lifelong learner and avid traveler, Meaghan finds joy in exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and trying foods that tell stories about the communities from which they come. Travel has continually reminded her that education extends far beyond institutions—it lives within relationships, traditions, and the countless ways human beings make meaning of the world around them.
She also treasures the practice of slowing down in a fast-moving world. Beautiful stationery, handwritten cards, and thoughtful correspondence remain among her favorite rituals. In an age increasingly shaped by technology and immediacy, these small acts of intentionality serve as reminders that human connection, presence, and care still matter deeply.
These passions may seem far removed from college admissions, but in many ways they embody the philosophy at the heart of The College Broker: that meaningful lives are built through curiosity, community, beauty, service, and the relationships we nurture along the way.
Education should help us become more fully human.
The things we love—and the people with whom we share them—are often our greatest teachers.
